KUUMBA Festival 2026

KUUMBA, meaning “creativity” in Swahili, is Toronto’s largest and longest-running Black Futures Month festival, celebrating the rich histories, achievements and creative brilliance of Black communities across North America.

Each February, Harbourfront Centre , brings together artists, thinkers and performers for a month-long showcase of music, dance, theatre, literature, comedy, wellness programming and family-friendly events.

Guided by this year’s theme, Sounds of Blackness, KUUMBA 2026 amplifies Afro-Caribbean and Canadian voices through electrifying performances, masterclasses and community conversations. The festival provides a vibrant space for reflection, celebration, and future-focused dialogue, inviting audiences to connect, learn, and experience the dynamic range of Black cultural expression.

This year’s edition celebrates the rich histories, achievements and creative brilliance of Black communities across North America, framed within a dynamic global perspective. Guided by the unifying theme Sounds of Blackness, KUUMBA 2026 will feature a vibrant lineup of programming spanning music, literature, dance, theatre, wellness, family-friendly events and masterclasses, amplifying Afro-Caribbean and Canadian artists and thought leaders to create a powerful platform for reflection, celebration and future-focused dialogue.
